At a young age you could give me a standard spinning rod equiped with a crawler harness & bobber and I would be entertained for hours.
As time went on I experimented with all sorts of fishing. Ice fishing for perch and walleye on the great lakes, too fishing leeches below dams, salmon & steelhead runs on both charter boats and wading, using corn at the end of a dock for blue gill, to fishing poppers for smallmouth bass…
It was Rusty Gates who help me get into the sport of Fly Fishing. I accidently found his shop during a summer float along the Au Sable river. I knew nothing about the guy or the sport, however when I entered his shop their was a certain buzz and energy about the sport that never left.
Out of college, married and 5 years later im finding that a day hasnt gone by where I havent thought about fly fishing!
